11th-Dec-2007 02:37 pm - One last post? [meta]
miniature, dwarf
Ok, I think [info]allyrapixie's wrath has died down by now, so it's probably safe to post. Yes, I wrote less than 2000 words for NaNoWriMo. Frankly, I'm pleased that two out of two of the people that signed up because I encouraged them to actually managed to finish. Can I pick them or what! :)

Anyway, so lately I've been working on some other projects, and I've got a question for you all.

I know that for those of you who are on livejournal it's awfully convenient to keep up with my blog because it just automatically shows up on your friend page.

Ok, so who here would stop reading my blog if it was on another (non-livejournal) site? It will of course have RSS feeds (if you are into such things). I ask, because it's looking likely that I'll be hosting a blogging setup for my entire family. It'll have permissions and such so that my family members can limit who is able to see the posts. The majority of my posts will remain visible to everyone, including those who are not logged in to the site, so that means that you'll all have access. It just won't be quite as convenient as reading your livejournal friends page (unless of course you are into RSS feeds like I am).

Since I'll have the encouragement of other family members posting there (and in fact, Mrs. Kheldar has already made two posts), I will likely be posting about twice a week.

Anyhow, so what do you say? Too much trouble to go to another site, or will you still be reading?

Oh, and in case you are interested, the address is http://www.batishko.net. User creation is turned on if you care to register.
15th-Apr-2007 08:55 am - Let me try something else [meta]
miniature, dwarf
The problem here is that I get busy with stuff, so I don't feel like taking the time to blog. Then when I do have time to write, I feel like I have a big bucket of stuff that I need to blog. So, that just delays things more.

New idea.

No more rambles when I'm behind. Instead, I'm going to try and post shorter blogs about just a single topic. That should help me post more often, and may lead to be staying more current with things.

Now I just need some kind of list to keep track of the things I want to blog about...

Topic for next time: Where does my time go?

Well, as you may or may not recall, in a comment on my first post I was wondering how often I'd be updating after the first month had gone by...

Look, I'm still here!

That bodes well. Now we'll just have to see if I can keep it up for another month.

What's that? Why aren't I playing Vanguard? Well, actually I just got on a couple minutes ago, and it crashed. I'm taking that as a sign, and I'm going to get some other stuff done today. Maybe get some reading done a little later.

For now, I do need to do some planning for tomorrow's RPG session. I need to come up with an interesting twist or two in order to keep the plot interesting. Since I'm not used to the whole WWII superheroes genre, I feel like I'm struggling to come up with an interesting story. Mrs. Kheldar assures me that she's having fun, but I'm thinking that she's biased. :)

I should be in the right frame of mind for plot twists. I did just finish watching three episodes of the first season of the TV show 24. We just finished the 3pm-4pm episode, and it's certainly remaining a tense show.

Let's see... do any of my players have dependants that could get kidnapped? Hmm... have to go check their character sheets.

8th-Jan-2007 07:02 pm - What to do... [meta, movies]
miniature, dwarf
Well, this evening Mrs. Kheldar and I watched the movie Mazes and Monsters. Optiker and Big Louie (my folks) had picked up the DVD in a bargain bin, and I just had to borrow it from them, since I'd heard plenty of things about it (nothing good). Well, it turns out that it was not quite as bad as I'd figured. It's definitely a B movie, and it is a little bit non-complimentary of role playing/role players. However, it was fun to see a very young Tom Hanks (and surprising to see how many of his acting mannerisms haven't changed at all), and at least this one had a reasonable plot, unlike the movie MASH, which was an absolute and utter waste of time. Still, I did have to ask Mrs. Kheldar how many movies Hanks has been in now that end with a scene on top of a sky scraper in New York (she's thinking just two).

Anyway, so the final verdict is... humorous (perhaps not intentionally), but not exactly something I'd recommend for anyone to rush out and purchase.

Incidentally, the review listed in the link up there for M&M is actually a little funny, particularly the part about how the guy's friend's parents forced their son to watch the movie in an attempt to scare him away from role playing, but instead it inspired him to begin LARPing (that's Live Action Role Playing). Heh...

Anyway, now I've got to decide what to do with the rest of my evening. Mrs. Kheldar should have some dinner ready soon, so I'll just have putter around on the computer until then.

Oh yeah, in case you read my blog through your friend's page, I'm making use of the Current Music meta data to list the current book I'm reading. If you read my blog directly, the label shows up correctly, but everyone else might be a bit confused...
27th-Dec-2006 03:10 pm - Welcome! [meta, rpg]
miniature, dwarf
Welcome, everyone, to my new blog. I'm hoping that this will be a good mechanism to give you all a chance to keep up with what's going on in my life. This will be a place where I can talk about whatever it is that is currently occupying my attention. Because I'm a man of many interests, expect to see entries about a very broad variety of topics. I don't plan to have any fixed schedule for posting new entries, but expect to see something new at least once a week.

Feel free to leave comments or respond to comments that others have left. You do not need to have a livejournal account to post comments, but it does make some things a little more convenient. If you do post an "anonymous" comment (without an account), please put your name or handle at the end of the comment so I know who you are.

I do not intend to use my real name (or the real names of my friends and family) in this blog. If you don't know who I am, then it really shouldn't matter. If you do mention someone else in a comment, please respect their preferences for privacy and do not use their real name without their permission.

For those of you familiar with RSS feeds,  the update URL for this site is http://kheldarthedwarf.livejournal.com/data/rss. For those of you who don't know what this is, RSS provides a way for you to receive notification of changes to a web page. Some email clients (such as Mozilla Thunderbird) directly integrate RSS, allowing you to directly add new RSS feeds. There are also a variety of plugins for all the major web browsers that allow you to manage your RSS feeds.

In case you are wondering why I used the name Kheldar for my blog... for now I'll just say that it was the name of one of the characters I once played in a role playing game. If you aren't familiar with role playing games, then for now just think of it as a game where a bunch of people get together and create a story together, using dice to determine the outcome of events in the story.

One final note. If you run into any problems, you can either e-mail me, or post your question in the comments area, and either I or someone else will happily provide an answer.
