Almost there...
Well, NaNoWriMo starts tomorrow. I think I'm reasonably prepared. It looks like Mrs. Kheldar will be giving it a shot, as will gauntman, and another of my co-workers. So, it looks like I'll have plenty of people around to help me stay motivated. Of course it figures that now when this thing is about to start, I suddenly have all sorts of computer game related things vying for my attention. My Guitar Hero 3 preorder has shipped. A friend is picking up Hellgate: London, and based off my playing through of the demo, I'm seriously tempted as well. I have other games I'm playing and enjoying of the PS2 (Shadow of the Colossus serious rocks)... So many possibilities, so little time...

I think I'll update you guys every couple of days on my progress. I'll give you a summary of what new things I've written so that you can slowly "read" my story. After all, given the quantity over quality nature of this thing, I really doubt I'll be making it available to anyone anytime soon. So, to start things out, here's a little bit about my main character and setting...

His name is Solomon Price, and he makes a living as a Dawm Go'el (blood avenger). Essentially, he hunts down those who have murdered and kills them, collecting a bounty as a reward. He is good at what he does, and generally feels a strong sense of satisfaction over being able to bring a little bit of justice to the world.

The world is a post-apocalyptic setting. The common technology level is generally around the late 1800s. So, we're talking the American wild west. Steam trains, six-shooters, horses, etc. Most of the population lives in rural areas or small towns. There are a few larger cities in places. Banditry and lawlessness are somewhat common. Corruption in government is all too common, and might frequently makes right. The "fall" was a longer process precipitated by events that I won't go into at this time. For a period of time during the fall, Israel essentially was the world government. It is still common in this setting to see remnants of Jewish culture, particularly in the rural areas.

That should be enough to get started on.

I think I'm going to give it a go. I make no guarantees, particularly with my somewhat late introduction to NaNoWriMo. I figure I'll work on a story that's been percolating in the back of my mind for awhile rather that re-write the one Sareth's wife is waiting for. (Sorry, M.)

I know what you mean about having many distractions. There are a number of things on my list of things to do. Nothing absolutely imperative, but still... Ah, well, here's to finding a balance!

Excellent! Let me know your username once you sign up so that I can add you as a friend.

allyrapixie. What else? ;) And you? (Of course, even knowing your username won't do me much good if I can't figure out how to add you as a friend. I'm a bit slow learning to navigate the site. There doesn't appear to be any way to search for people. Hopefully I'll be better at the writing than I am at figuring out the site.)

You know, people on the east coast could be writing already... ;p

I sent you a message on the NaNoWriMo site with instructions on adding me as a friend. I can't find a way to search for people either. Maybe next year. I guess they redid their interface this year, and had a few problems...

Well, you're my buddy now. I'm glad they made a point of telling us that alot of what we're writing is going to be drivel, because I gotta tell you, I'm not exactly off to an auspicious start. I'm writing slow and I seriously doubt that what I've got so far would hook anyone in. And I'm not sure how to remove that goose-egg on my "words so far" meter. Sigh. Ignore me, I'm just slow today.

Ah, a little digging reveals the light of day... found how to change the word count. You know, if I could just do stream-of-conscious story-telling I'd be at 50,000 really fast. I am allyra, see me babble.... Sorry. I'll go now, write a little more, then sleep. Go team go. :)

Yup, this is definitely not going to be quality writing. Mine's pretty bad stuff too...

Maybe it's not nice to say so, but I find that to be very comforting. ;)
